The Recycle for London campaign will see the introduction of a mobile phone game, which will aim to make Londoners more aware of the importance of recycling through interactive fun.

Gamers will be asked to defeat their hungry 'evil bin' by ensuring that all recyclable materials are put in a green recycling box.

Mayor Boris Johnson is hoping that the new scheme will improve recycling statistics in London.

At the moment, Londoners on average are recycling 20 per cent of their waste when over 60 per cent of rubbish can actually be recycled.

Mr Johnson, who is chair of the London Waste and Recycling Board, said:

"I am very excited that the new Recycle for London campaign is using innovative technologies to boost recycling and my message is to starve your bins and recycle, recycle, recycle."

The Recycle for London campaign will feature in television adverts for the first time.
